Toledo’s curbside bulk pickup changed in January 2026: five items a week, no phone call, but each one has to weigh under 40 pounds. That fixes a dresser and does nothing for a sectional, a washer or a basement full of boxes. We haul furniture, appliances, mattresses, hot tubs, sheds and whole-house cleanouts out of homes and businesses across Toledo, Ohio and Lucas County, for a flat price quoted before anything moves.

What the City of Toledo picks up, and what it doesn’t

The city explains its rules on its trash and recycling page. As of October 2026, for bulk items:

  • Up to five bulk items a week, set out with your regular trash. Since January 5, 2026 you no longer schedule it with Republic Services.
  • Each item or bundle must be under 40 pounds.
  • Mattresses must be bagged or wrapped. Wood, branches and rugs go out tied in a bundle no larger than 3 by 4 feet, with any nails or screws removed or pounded flat.
  • Not collected: loose or unbagged debris, tires, hazardous waste, major car parts, commercial construction material, boards with nails or screws, and anything over 40 pounds. The city says items it can’t collect are left at the curb and residents may be fined.

The city’s large set-outs page says that if the amount is too large, “you will need a dumpster or private hauling service,” and that a set-out that is too large can bring a Notice of Liability and a $1,000 fine. Rules like these change, so confirm with the city or Republic Services (419-936-2511) before you set anything out. We have a longer breakdown in our 2026 Toledo bulk trash rules guide. Old tires have their own options, covered on our tire removal page.

If you have a few light items and can get them to the curb, the city route is free or close to it. It stops working when something is heavy, when it is in the basement, or when you are clearing more than five things.

Hoffman Road Landfill: the do-it-yourself option

If you have a truck or trailer, the city’s Hoffman Road Landfill (3962 Hoffman Rd., 419-936-3077) takes residential loads. As of October 2026, its page lists:

  • Paid disposal at $16 per cubic yard, rounded to the nearest yard with a one-yard minimum, cash only. Proof of City of Toledo or Lucas County residency is required.
  • A few free disposal days a year for Lucas County residents with one truck or trailer load and a valid driver’s license. The city’s page says three; the dates are posted on toledo.oh.gov and change each year.
  • No free commercial disposal, and no yard waste, chemicals, paint or flammable materials.
  • You unload it yourself.

Do the math before you rent a truck: a full 16-cubic-yard load is $256 in landfill fees alone at that rate, plus the truck, fuel, your time and your back. For a big load that is often close to what a crew costs. For a small one, it is the cheapest route.

When it makes more sense to call us

Paint, chemicals and other hazardous waste

None of that can go in a junk removal load, and the city’s curbside program doesn’t take it either. Lucas County runs a household hazardous waste program by appointment: call 419-213-2230, it is open to Lucas County residents and limited to individual households, and no business or industrial waste is accepted. The county’s page lists $1.00 per pound for most materials. If you are clearing a garage or basement, set those cans aside and we will haul everything else.
